St. Charles Ave. Lights and Oaks, The Home4400 Block of St. Charles Ave.

There is a lot of decorations in New Orleans during the holiday season.  Here are a few that I sat this week. Most are free.  Bring your own egg nog and enjoy the sights and sounds. Its easy to see why so many more people want to make New Orleans a second home.  We may not have seasonal weather but we do celebrate a lot.

Laura Plantation, An hour upriver from New Orleans…A Creole Plantation

Laura Plantation

Laura Plantation, Front Door

Laurel Plantation is less than hour upriver from New Orleans on the West Bank of the Mississippi River. A West Indies style Plantation adds plenty of color to the landscape.  These were all working plantations that were self contained sugar plantations producing everything on site.

Guillaume Duparc acquired the property in 1805 and built the home in the next 11 months.  Once finished it was 24,000 st. ft. of living and basement. It was a U shaped structure with a 2500 sq. detached kitchen in the rear. The wings and kitchen no longer exist but you can still see the foundations today….

New Orleans Graves and Tombs, Always a Great Visit…..

Thursday, October 2nd, 2014

Cemetery, Dead end Street

Always a great visit for locals and visitors.  It is always amazing the amount of work that went into the tombs in New Orleans Cemeteries.  They are works of art for all to enjoy. One of the best free visits that New Orleans can offer. One of the most interesting is reading the family names and guessing the orgins  of the family.  Many f the names are no longer here and makes you wonder what happened to the family….

Sachmo Fest 2014

There is always a reason to go to the French Quarter.  This past weekend was the annual Satchmo Fest centered around the Old New Orleans Mint on Esplanade Ave.  Its hard to beat New Orleans for the mix of music, food, shopping and festivals.  The great thing about the fun is that it is free to all to enjoy.

The Satchmo Summerfest honors Louis Armstrong who was born in New Orleans on August 4, 1901 to a poor family.  He rose from poverty with his horn and became World Famous for his Music and his Song. Kids start playing early in New Orleans as it become a family thing to do.

Bourbon Street and Gov. Nicholls      Homes on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.  Yes, there is more than bars and night clubs on Bourbon Street.  You walk from a busy busy party and right down the block you enter a residential area that is always pretty quiet.  The homes are historic and some of the cutest in the French Quarter….

Sunday, June 22nd, 2014

1107 S. Peters 413, Federal Fibre Mills Condos, Exposed Beam s and Brick     The Warehouse Distirct has become a favorite of second homers.  The Federal Fibre Mills is one of my favorite buildings.  This is the inside of a condo that I just listed.  Its known for its exposed beams, exposed brick, large windows, wood ceilings, high ceiling and attention to historic details. This one is being sold furnished for $320,413. Over time many of the owners have upgraded their units to look much like this one.
