As a real estate  agent who works the entire Metro New Orleans you get to see a lot of neat units with great locations.  This is one of them, where you have an unobstructed view of the lake from the second floorcorner unit…. Where you can watch the sunrise from your kitchen and watch the sun set from the living room.  Plenty of green space and a marina a short walk away from your boat.  Dream on …………Remember to bring the wine!

Lakeview real estate and Homes, Lakeview New Orleans

The original Lakeview Cottages were built in the 1950’s looked like this home.  Since Katrina there are even fewer of these original raised cottage styles left in Lakeview.   The cottages were raised structures that featured hardwood floors, plaster walls, 9′ ceilings,  small garages, small closets, wood windows, and wood siding.  Many time the homes only had two bedrooms with a large eat in kitchen.  Many have been torn down and many have been added on to so as to loose the original flavor of these homes.  Lakeview and Old Metairie were the best areas to see these cottages in.  The land value increased so much in these areas that these cottages became tear-downs.

Lakeview Homes make a comeback! It’s smart to be raised! Lakeview Real Estate Market is back!

Lakeview Real Estate and Homes in New Orleans

Lakeview is making big strides in coming back during from the flooding from Katrina.  This area was under 8 to 10 feet of water.  This meant many were too damaged to be rebuilt.  Everything is coming back with 2009 being the year with the most building since Katrina.  Real estate demand for Lakeview has become brisk  and sales have really picked up.

The variety of homes and styles are amazing.  The house picture above has his garage and extra rooms on the first floor to avoid a second disaster.   His living area is on the second and third floors.  The first floor is much like a basement.

Its still amazing site to see the area being rebuilt one brick at a time and much more quickly that I would have thought.  You have to remember everything was under water.  Nothing livable, no stores, no power, not grocery stores for months after Katrina.  In 2010 more improvements willl be made.
