Cabildo from Corner, French Quarter Nights

About Sunset in the afternoon you get a lot of shadows and streams of light that give you a variety of colors and shades.  These are some of the photos that I took this week in the French Quarter in the late afternoon.  You end up getting a lot of detail as you get little direct sun and deep shadows as you would during the day.

Bywater Homes and Porches...

A generation knew the area as the “Upper 9th Ward”, but as other parts of the 9th Ward above the Canal farther from the River became developed, a more specific name was needed. Inspired by the local telephone exchangedesignation of Bywater, which fit the neighborhood’s proximity to the River and the Canal, the neighborhood was known as “Bywater” by the 1940s.

The variety of the ateaas housing stock is pretty diverse.  The homes pictured here just stood out from the rest.  There is many more but this caught my cameras eye about a week ago….

Dumaine and Bourbon, New Orleans Homes

How lucky are we to live in a city that has managed to preserve and restore where New Orleans started in 1718.  Fires, plagues, and hurricanes have tried to trash it but we continue to rebuild.  Always interesting stories and beautiful buildings.  A tremendous amount of restoration is taking place now and over the last couple of years…Check out these corners…..

Street Music In New Orleans Is Sweet Music…..

Sunday, December 1st, 2013

Street Musician in New Orleans French Quarter 2013      Street Music in the French Quarter comes in all shapes and sizes.  Most weekends you can easily hear 5-6 Musicians playing for tips.  It feels so good to tip them over the beggars by the Interstate.  The preformers get to practice there craft and we get to listen all we want….It just adds to the NOLA Experience..

French Quarter Corner Restraunt with Ferns

Always love all the hanging ferns from the French Quarter Homes, Restraunts, Hotels, Shops and Apartments.  You do have to take care of the but they add so much to the character on New Orleans.  Its people on their own being creative.  It does take tropical weather, rich soil and plenty of mosoture to make them grow as they do…

French Balcony Views on St. Ann

What is the difference in a balcony and a gallery.  They are both desired, they both  love plants hanging, its a view, its a place to sit and watch, and its a place to be watched.  The galleries is what I have pictured here on this page.  They have support that is on the street level.  See the supporting poles.  Balconies are free standing and do have that tyep of support.  That allows galleries to be more functional and be wider because of the support.  You can have a double gallery and it becomes more like a porch if you are on the lowe galleries……

St. Louis Cathedral behind Fence    Easily the most photographed scene in New Orleans is the St. Louis Cathedral at Jackson Square.  There are all kinds of angles and things you can pick up.  These are few of my favorites from last week. Overcast but still colorful….

FQ Hanging Baskets on Barracks Street

French Quarter Homes, Brackets and Sidewalk gardens

New Orleans has many historic homes and truly unique homes.  These are a few of the more colorful ones in the Frrench Quarter that just open to the street.  Check out the Brackets and see how they add color.  Check out the shutters and steps that are unqiue.  Many of the present owners plant hanging baskets of colorful plants and use the small spaces for some beautiful plants.  This is their way of making the area so much more livable.  NOLA living is different…..
