Botantical Gardens in New Orleans City Park, At the Water Lily Pond….

Friday, July 13th, 2012

City Park in New Orleans is a great Place to visit.  I Bought a “Friends of City Park Membership” Great Deal and you can go all you want for $59 per year. Grand kids, Kids and all.  Stop by for 30 minutes to see what is new.  Got some pretty shots this week.  Love the Water Lilies this time of year…..Its almost in the backyard of Lakeview, Old Metairie and Mid City.  Close to everyone however in the metro area.  It works because the City does not run it and it has to provide value to stay ahead…..

Casino at City Park, one night this Spring..

The Casino building in New Orleans City Park is a refreshment center in the park.  It was built in the 1930’s as part of the Works Progress Administration to keep people busy during the Great Depression of the 30’s.  The Federal Government spent 12 million dollars and employed 20,000 men and women in New Orleans to work on such projects.  The money went much further in those days.  Things actually got done…

Water Lilies find a home in New Orleans

The weather in South Louisiana is great for water lilies.  They love hot and humid weather and we have a lot of that.  The rain does not effect them one bit. If you live in Lakeview, Mid-City or Old Metairie you can almost walk to City Park in New Orleans.  The botanical gardens is where you can find these water lilies on display among other things.

New Orleans City Park

New Orleans City Park is a great piece of real estate between Lakeview and Mid-City.  Its on the verge of once again becoming a real gem in New Orleans and the surrounding area.  The Sculpture Garden is free for all to enjoy.  It is between the new tennis area and the Museum of Art.  Put this on your walking tour.  Such an asset makes the residential areas around the park just that much better.

New Orleans City Park Lagoon, New Orleans Homes

City Park in New Orleans is a Gem!  The park is owned by the state of Louisiana but receives almost no funding from the state of Louisiana  or the City of New Orleans.  Most funds are self generated so its got to look nice to get people there.  Its at the end of the Canal Street street car line so ride and walk.  The park got started during the Great Depression and was built by people needing jobs in the 1930’s by the WPA.  There was no welfare then, but plenty of people who wanted work.  Works Progress Adminstration.  History Major here!
