The port of New Orleans is one of the worlds largest ports.  It has to take 24 hours a day to get the ships in and out.  Its most commrcial but there are several cruise ships that sail out of New Orleans on a weekly basis. At this point in the river the depth is almost 250 feet deep with millions of gallons of water and silt per second.

Mississippi River in New Orleans

Sunrise on the Mississippi in New Orleans is the quiet part of the day.  Maybe the coolest part of the day as well. The river never slows but those working on the river do take time off.  Ships come and go at all hours as they are on a schedule.  Beautiful time of the day however.  This was taken in the middle of the French Quarter which also is very quiet as the sun comes up.
